nokia 5800 can't ever be used as wifi device
I would just like to use it over my wifi connection, but don't want a monthly charge from a service provider. Can it just be purchased outright?

I believe you should opt for HTC Desire.
Simply because you seem to have the budget, HTC is an awesome company when it comes to mobile phones and computer peripherals. Samsung is relative new in the tablet market.
Please, I need suggestions of people that have alredy used both.
-Which touchscreen is better?
-The camera of the Samsung Galaxy is good?

i have went through this in my meetings, we have concluded that the ipad is definitely a more improved product. the galaxy s has only a 3mp camera, which is a big difference compared to the 8mp evo or the 5mp iphone 4. apple has the top of the line way
I'm a cabbie, and I would just like to write a little, a simple text document. I handle Swype well on my Droid X, and I've been considering a Samsung Galaxy tab. I don't want to pay the $20 or $30/monthly
I would say it is worth it, as long as you dont plan on needing to use it when you are on the road. there are many placed that offer free wifi and they are great tablets!

can I buy the Samsung galaxy tab from amazon and use it without getting a monthly plan? (Only using wifi). Also, if i do only use wifi, will i still be able to download and use apps?
The story of the Galaxy Tab has been quite a saga, to say the least. In fact, it was actually back in May that we first heard rumblings of Samsung's plans to unleash a 7-inch Android tablet much like its Galaxy S phones, but it was only after months of painful teasing -- including a cruel look at just its packaging on the Engadget Show -- that Sammy finally unveiled the Galaxy Tab to the world at IFA. The Tab certainly packed the specs -- a 1GHz processor, full Flash support thanks to Android...

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is all potential. The first viable competitor to the Apple iPad, it's a well-built Android tablet that's comfortable and easy to use.
Everyone has come to know what the Galaxy Tab is; its one of the top tablets out there. Previously, it was required to have a data plan in order to use one. Today, Samsung announced that is no longer the case with the introduction of a Wifi-only model.Samsung was one of the first Android tablet makers with the Galaxy Tab. It was really beautiful with a conveniently sized seven inches display. Apart from that, it also had 3G support, Adobe Flash, and Android 2.2 OS. It had everything that the iPad had and was the only real threat to the Apple’s tablet.
However, people decided to stick with Apple iPad and hence Samsung’s product wasn’t a big success. One big reason behind this was the lack of Wi-Fi only version. To care of that, the Korean company is now out with 16GB Wi-Fi only version for luring tablet enthusiasts.
It is a bit disappointing to see this tablet now. The manufacturer should have introduced this along with the 3G model itself. Also, Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb is now out and hence the attention has been shifted to the newer OS. That said, I still think that the Galaxy Tab is still the best performing seven inch tablet devices in the market right now looking at the low price of Rs. 24,500. Compared to this, the BlackBerry PlayBook and the Apple iPad are more expensive.

Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
I am not going to spend too much time on this review, as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 has been out since this past October. I am waiting for a chance with the Galaxy Note, and decided I would wet my toes with a solid couple weeks in the Android world.

New iPad's 4G claims could put Apple under ACCC's watch
Apple asks buyers to choose between WiFi and "WiFI + 4G" models on its Australian website. But the 700MHz and 2100MHz frequencies used by the new iPad differ from the 1800MHz frequency used by Telstra's LTE (long-term evolution) 4G network.
