In the commercial (which I am fairly certain is real), the laptop takes about 17 seconds to boot. Why is this not a good demonstration? Well, suppose they dropped this from a typical starting height of 12,000 feet. Also suppose that the laptop has a terminal velocity similar to a skydiver (about 120 mph). Given these two things, how long does the laptop have before it has to open the parachute? Ok, I am going to say it should open by 1,000 feet (but really it could probably go much lower). This would be a time of:
Oh right, they took maybe 20 seconds to get to the falling laptop. That would still leave 42 seconds for the thing to boot. Not even close. This would be like showing how awesome your new Ford truck is by having it pull a jet ski on a trailer. Quick reminder: if I made any skydiving mistakes, I am sure Dr. Sky Skull will point it out.
