We take a look at HTC’s forthcoming 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet, the HTC Puccini (also known as the Jetstream), to see how it fares against Sony’s new Tablet S.
Form
HTC Puccini - 251x178x13mm, 709g
Sony Tablet S - 241.2x174.3x10.1-20.6mm (tapers), 598g
The HTC Flyer, the company’s first foray into tablet territory, was garish and unsightly, but it seems lessons have been learned as this newest device is a much more tasteful affair.
The bodywork is sleek, black and shiny and there’s very little border space around the screen – a look we feel works well more often than not.
HTC has also given the Puccini some visual interest with carbon fibre styling on the back panel, while the camera port is subtly integrated in the top corner.
HTC EVO 3D is a smart phone able to capture 3-D photos and video.
"We set Bt12 million as the marketing budget for this model, 45 per cent for above-the-line [broad-based] marketing and 55 per cent for below-the-line [targeted at niche customers]. We also plan to promote this model in 3-D theatres," Nattawat said.
He added that HTC Thailand saw growth of 300 per cent in the first nine months of this year over
Certainly more sturdy than the Galaxy Tab or the Playbook, the Flyer is made of brushed anodized aluminum in a unibody form factor that is thin, sleek and attractive. While some might be turned off by the white-on-silver design, we found it did not interfere with day-to-day usage. The 7″ screen is bright and vivid, with excellent viewing angles and good touch sensitivity. Only recently have N-Trig digitizers become good enough that touch sensitivity is equal to that of a stylus on a capacitive screen.
We enjoyed holding the device which, at 420g, can easily be grasped in one hand for reading or surfing. The back is slightly rounded, aligning almost perfectly with the contour of the palm. It can also easily be rested between the thumb and pinky finger to hold it upright without strain.

HTC Flyer comes with a stylus/pen HTC Scribble technology (magic pen), which is claimed by HTC is the only tablet currently using stylus/pen
The HTC Flyer is the first tablet that introduces an innovative and natural interaction with his pencil. With it you can draw, paint, write, sign documents and even retouch photographs. It also serves to underline the reader (underline all that will be collected when you finish). With HTC Flyer you can even add narration to the story book you’re drawing in your spare time. For work or play … it’s magical.
Special note-taking The HTC Flyer ensures that you will not miss a thing thanks to HTC Notes. You can scribble and add photos and audio to your notes. You can also synchronize notes with citations on the calendar and have it turn them into a media file with meetings or past activities. With TimeMark just click at any time of the meeting and will play the sound you recorded, so you never have to be figuring out the notes you’ve taken.

The HTC Flyer is a pretty decent tablet based on specs alone, more so given that this is HTC’s first Android tablet. The downside is that unfortunately the stylus which is supposed to be optimized (and part of the experience) for the Flyer was initially sold separately and customers had to pay an additional $80 for the experience. It also came with Gingerbread, which is a great platform for smartphones, is perhaps not the most ideal for tablets.
The good news for HTC Flyer users is that Paul O’Brien from MoDaCo managed to get his hands on the Honeycomb 3.2 and Sense 1.1 for tablets update and has released a ROM for the Flyer. Apart from the fact that Honeycomb 3.2 has been optimized for tablets in the smaller variety (i.e. 7” tablets), it seems that the Sense 1.1 for tablets further incorporates the use of the stylus.
...Successfully ported the ROM to his HTC Flyer and posted the screenshots. The Sense UX version number is also 1.1, just like the JetStream.
No word on when HTC will officially launch the update, but you can port it to your Flyer if you're feeling adventurous. It does take some skill, and it's definitelly not for the faint of heart. After looking at the instructions , all I can say is "mod at your own risk."
With that being said, who's excited for the official Honeycomb Flyer update? Drop a comment below!

Posted a few screenshots seen above and was nice enough to also provide instructions for flashing Honeycomb on your own Flyer . I wont give details here as the process is very involved and not very stable at the moment but Paul O’Brien and other devs should have things running in no time.
So far things looks great and according to globatron, most apps and games work fine but the device would rather be in portrait mode and a few apps are being cut off in landscape. Remember this is a leaked development build and in no way the final product from HTC although things look very similar to the recently released HTC Jetstream .
It appears we will have a flashable zip for users to try soon enough, and the update will probably be coming from HTC here in the next month or two, we hope. Stay tuned for more details as this all gets uncovered.
...PC World has cut the price of the HTC Flyer from £479 to £314, a price that includes delivery and is achieved using the voucher code at checkout TABLET5.
The tablet comes with some impressive technology like a 1.5GHz single core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, 1GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a 7-inch 1024x600 pixel capacitive touchscreen and integrated stereo speakers with SRS WOW HD virtual surround sound.
The rest of the specification reads as follows; a built-in GPS antenna, a five megapixel rear camera and front faicng 1.3 megapixel one, Wi-Fi, HDMI connectivity, USB, microSD, G-sensor, digital compass and Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread.
The Taiwanese hardware manufacturer also added a few of its own unique features like a the HTC Sense user interface and a digital scribe pen called the HTC Scribe which allows users to write directly on the screen.
