Why Samsung's 5-Inch and 7-Inch Tablets May Get It Right
01.09.11
Samsung's taking a couple more swings at sub-iPad tablet sizes with the 5.3-inch Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Tab 7.7. Finding success with these smaller sizes hasn't been easy for tablet makers, but there's a chance Samsung could finally get it right this time.
Let's start with the Galaxy Note, a phone-tablet hybrid with a 5.3-inch display. I know what you're probably thinking: this is doomed, just like Dell's recently discontinued Streak 5. While the 5-inch size certainly isn't for everyone, I think the niche exists. The Streak's failure had more to do with confused marketing (Dell avoided calling it a phone, while AT&T treated it as such), outdated Android software and a troubled launch, as I've explained elsewhere .

First look at the Dell Streak 7 with Android 3.2 Honeycomb - Liliputing
by Brad Linder
Dell has gone with a standard Honeycomb user interface with a combination of widgets and app icons on the home screen an software buttons in a bar on the bottom of the device for Home, Back, and Recent Apps functions. This replaces the Dell Stage software overlay that had been running on top of earlier tablets from Dell including the Dell Streak and Dell Streak 7 running Android 2.2.
This isn’t really the first time we’ve seen Honeycomb on Dell’s 7 inch tablet. Earlier this summer Android hacker DJ Steve created custom software for the tablet using Android 3.2 But it is the first look at the official
While Dell may have bid the Streak 5 a tearful goodbye, they have not forgotten about the Streak 7. Under the hood the Streak 7 has some decent specs, but we’re guessing that the 800×480 resolution may have turned some potential customers away, what with the Super AMOLED displays floating around in the market nowadays.
We’re also guessing that the Android Froyo 2.2 platform is a huge turn off as well, but that may be changing soon as word has it that Dell has plans to start rolling out updates for their Streak 7 device. The update is expected to bring the device from a lowly Froyo 2.2 all the way past Gingerbread and right smack into Honeycomb 3.2! That’s a pretty huge update!
Dell Streak 7 Scheduled for Honeycomb Upgrade | Tablet News
by James A.
Dell is getting ready to join the companies with Honeycomb devices, but not through an entirely new slate. It appears that their Dell Streak 7 model will receive the Android Honeycomb upgrade. This 7 inch tablet comes with a dual core Tegra 2 CPU, but also with a pretty poor resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.
As if the bad resolution wasn’t enough, the product was also crippled by Android 2.2 Froyo, but no more! Dell has promised an upgrade to Honeycomb and it seems we will get Android 3.2 here, which works just fine on this type of resolution and device. During IFA 2011 a couple of Streak 7 units with Honeycomb on board were seen. The majority of them had vanilla Honeycomb, coupled with Dell’s customized Stage UI as an extra.

Google built the first edition of Android Honeycomb, 3.0, around a 10.1-inch tablet named Motorola XOOM. A smaller sized tablet that could use some of the Android 3.2 goodness is Dell's Streak 7 tablet, the first 4G Android tablet in America.
