The Asus Eee Slate B121 offers up a pretty nice slate of specs (no pun intended!) as well as a set of extra security features for the corporate power user out there. The Eee Slate B121 is packing Windows 7 Professional, and is backed up by a 12.1 inch LED display with a Gorilla Glass screen showing at 1280 x 800 resolution. Not bad by itself, but it’s also packing an Intel Core i5 processor, four gigs of RAM, 64 gigs of storage (almost certainly solid state), a pair of USB 2.0 ports, a mini-HDMI output for those presentations, an SD card slot to back up the storage, and a two megapixel front facing camera. Plus, you’ll even get a Bluetooth keyboard and Wacom Digitizer stylus for controls.

Laptop Makers Taking a Timid Approach with Ultrabooks
06.09.11
Intel in May announced plans to recharge the PC market with a brand new laptop category called ultrabooks featuring longer battery life, ultrathin profiles of 0.8 inches or smaller and priced at less than $1000. The new ultraportable laptops are supposed to merge the performance capabilities of laptops with "tablet-like features such as instant-on functionality," Intel said. The first wave of ultrabooks are due out this fall, with more advanced devices coming in 2012 and 2013.
About six months before Intel announced the ultrabook category, Apple was making waves with its overhauled MacBook Air. The new Apple laptop line is similar to what Intel wants to see in ultrabooks such as solid-state hard drives, instant-on functionality, full-size keyboards, and at least one model priced below $1000. The latest MacBook Air refresh in July featured Sandy Bridge Core i5 and i7 processors, more RAM (except the base model), and Thunderbolt I/O ports.

- ASUS has embraced the new AMD Fusion processor lineup for their Eee PC 1215B product lineup. While the new E series essentially provides a budget laptop experience, the C series is more fitting of the Eee PC netbook lineage. The least expensive of these models is the Eee PC 1215B-MU17-BK uses the AMD C-50 dual core processor. This provides it with performance that is nearly on par with what can be found in the Intel Atom processors found in the majority of netbooks. What is surprising for the configuration is the inclusion of the Windows 7 Home Premium yet only 1GB of DDR3 memory which is typical of netbooks. This will really hamper the performance unless users take the time and money to upgrade the RAM .
