The battery life ranges anywhere from 5 hours to an advertised 8.5 hours; if one attaches power-guzzling USB peripherals like an external hard disk drive with two USB ports, the 40-watt AC power is all but necessary.
Beefing up the netbook
When using multiple programs, the Eee is a little slow compared to computers with quicker Pentium and Celeron processors. The Windows ReadyBoost feature allows the caching of files on a USB drive or other removable media if that option is selected when installing those devices.
I began using a 2 GB SDHC card in the card reader for ReadyBoost, and it helped the speed somewhat. I upgraded the RAM to the system max of 2 GB, which speeds up the processing. I also replaced the 2 GB SDHC card with an 8 GB SDHC card. I divided the card space between ReadyBoost (up to the card maximum of 4 GB) and the remainder of the card capacity for the Audacity temp file. Audio files (and Solitaire) loaded faster once I made the change.

Martin Bergek: Upgrading the RAM on Eee BoxA while back we had picked up a set of plastic pry tools for our iMac as we were intending to get into the case to have a look around along with upgrading what components we could. They would be perfect for this task if we could find them! :(
We ended up using a pair of PC case slot covers with straight ends to do the prying after first using a finger nail to pull the end away from the cover. We will try and dig up the Apple tools or pick up another set online as they would be the perfect fit to get things started.

The Asus Eee Box line of miniature desktop computers have shipped with low power Intel Atom chips since day one. Sure, some models had higher performance NVIDIA graphics processors, but under the hood every Eee Box had Intel inside. But now the company is getting ready to launch its first AMD-powered nettops.
Asus first showed of the Eee Box EB1020 and EB1021 at CeBIT in Germany in March . While neither model is available for purchase yet, Asus has posted product pages on its web site with more details on each.
The Asus Eee Box EB1021 has a 1.6 GHz AMD E-350 dual core processor and Radeon HD 6310 graphics. It supports Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit or Windows 7 Professional and can handle up to 4GB of RAM. The computer will be available with up to 320GB of hard drive space, 802.11n WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, and a decent array of ports including HDMI and D-Sub out jacks, 2 USB 3.0 ports, and 4 USB 2.0 ports.
