Does anyone know how long it should take to load a dvd onto the Archos 605. When I drag my dvd file over it tells me that it is going to take 4 days or more for the transfer. the size of the file is 5GB.
you are an idiot, why would you even think of puting a 5gb movie on your archos? rip your dvds with "DVD srink" and then covert them with "super" that will make them much smaller

u have got to shrink it,then convert it to make it smaller

archos 605?
Nov 21, 2007 by Joe S | Posted in TiVO & DVRs
i have an archos 605 and i have the internet browser plug in and i was wondering if there is any service that would allow me to use it WITHOUT beeilng in a hotspot
No. This is a WiFi only device. A plugin wouldnt be sufficient enough to allow it get internet access ALL DAY, ANYWHERE regardless of hotspots. It would also involve hardware upgrades.

Archos 605?
Dec 25, 2007 by Gonzalo G | Posted in Music & Music Players
I have the archos 605 and i have some videos i want to put on the device. I sync my video but then when i tried to watch them, i got this message:
"Image size too big"
sounds like the resolution is too high for it to work on your device. I dont know what kind of software is out there for fixing this, but whatever you used to get the movie on your computer (dvd converter maybe?) should have the option of picking your

Will the battery on a Archos 605 4GB MP3 flash type player last longer then the hard drive versions?
Mar 30, 2008 by Dellfan | Posted in Music & Music Players
I want to buy a Archos 605 4GB because I hear that the battery last longer, due to the fact that it dont have a hard drive like the Archos 30,80,160 GB. I like the fact that the 4GB Archos is smaller,
its mostly a wash. designers opt for smaller batteries for flash players so you end up with about the same life as the hard drive versions.

If I remember correctly, all the stuff you need for the ARCHOS comes LOADED ON the player.
You just have to pay money to ACTIVATE the applications.
Opera should already be loaded on the player.
But you'll

A review of the Archos 605 Wifi, a touchscreen PMP competing directly with the iPod Touch. For roughly the same price as the 8GB iPod Touch, the Archos 605 Wifi packs in 30GB. It also includes more formats and higher quality video.

Just bought a new 500gb version and very impressed. Been buying Archos products for 7 or 8 years now and whilst they are never bug free they are great value for money and I still prefer to use their units over my 32gb iPhone. The screen is fantastic, bright very sharp and responsive. Certainly recommended and a relative bargain too! Next version? 128/256gb flash and a CAMERA!! Plus convince Skype to offer on Android and stop wasting their time with crappy Windows Mobile 6.5 variants.
It really looks and hears great like THE product I ever wanted and didn’t get with the iPod Touch..
BUT !!!!
The problem with the market..
I mean as they said, a portable device is only good as it’s connected to the internet, it is also only good if you have lots of GAMES and APPS for it – why can’t you use the original market ?
The intention behind the GPS addition is to enhance your 605, not compete with fully flushed GPS units. It's important to note that since the GPS chip is not contained in the actual 605, the GPS functionality is not portable and remains solely with the in-car unit. This makes it a cheap option for car navigation but not suitable for handheld purposes.
GPS Features Voice-to-text commands Touchscreen interface Point-of-Interest markers Responds to zipcode information Route recalculation Traffic assistance Route planning
The unit comes preloaded with TeleAtlas maps, with 3 location options: North America (U.S. and Canada), Europe (22 countries) or China. All Archo 605 functionality is still enabled while plugged into the GPS including WiFi, see the 605 report to read more.
Archos 605 WiFi(30GB), Zune HD(16 GB), or Samsung P3(16GB ...

– My friend has a 250GB Archos 5 and he really likes it. He just wishes it were a bit smaller. I have used it, and I think the OS(operating system) is alright, but it could be better(the OS on both my friend’s Archos 5 and 605 are the same)
Zune HD(16GB, $ 200) PROS: Haptic feedback; supports many audio and video files; embedded speaker; multiple home screen to put various shortcut/widgets/games on; numerous preset audio settings(Live, Rock, Hip Hop, Classical, etc.); ability to change song play speed without sacrificing tone(voice doesn’t get high-pitched when you play the file faster, or get lower when you play it slower) ZND = 0.4813
As far as its features are concerned, it offers high definition (for 2007’s standards) video playback, Internet radio, Opera web browser, Wi-Fi and other goodies like the PDF viewer, photo viewer, video player, MP3 player and Content Portal feature. Its music player has support for MP3s, WAVs and WMA files, including the DRM-protected ones. At the time of launch, for extra money you could have bought support for AAC files. During playback, the device’s music player is able to show album artwork and you have the possibility to sort the music library by ID3 tags.
The video player is just as good as the audio one, offering support for WMV, AVI and MPEG-4 files up to 30 FPS. During video playback, you can resize, bookmark as well as skip through the movie. An extra feature available when it came out was the DVR Station, priced at $99. It was able to unlock the ability of the PVP to double as a complex digital video recorder. Users were able to dock the device in this DVR Station and then connect it to the TV.
