Just bought a new 500gb version and very impressed. Been buying Archos products for 7 or 8 years now and whilst they are never bug free they are great value for money and I still prefer to use their units over my 32gb iPhone. The screen is fantastic, bright very sharp and responsive. Certainly recommended and a relative bargain too! Next version? 128/256gb flash and a CAMERA!! Plus convince Skype to offer on Android and stop wasting their time with crappy Windows Mobile 6.5 variants.
It really looks and hears great like THE product I ever wanted and didn’t get with the iPod Touch..
BUT !!!!
The problem with the market..
I mean as they said, a portable device is only good as it’s connected to the internet, it is also only good if you have lots of GAMES and APPS for it – why can’t you use the original market ?

So if you’ve ever heard of the company Archos you might know they have an Internet Tablet lineup. That lineup is mainly with their generation 8 devices. The gen8 devices come with Android 2.2 Froyo. But those who own a generation 7 tablet are stuck with Androlid 1.6 Donut. The sad thing is Archos isn’t very good at updating firmware on older devices so Archos 5 Internet Tablet users are pretty much stuck with Donut. The good thing though is the Archos 5 IT has a community of developers behind it over at OpenAOS. So they found a way to install custom operating systems on the device. That includes Android 2.2 Froyo… For the full show notes head on over to go.zlstudios.net 102510d Follow me on Twitter: twitter.com
Uh, that’s the old, now-discontinued Archos 5 NON-Android tablet that’s being heavily discounted *as it’s discontinued*.
And of course the review was of the unit with it’s far-too-buggy release firmware. It’s an entirely different, very fast and stable experience now.
And have a great time watching crystal-clear silky smooth 720p Video on your Android phones! Oh, wait, you can’t, and even if you could the screen would be too small to see them clearly.
Oh well, too bad you didn’t have the same lucky mix-up I did… :D
Remember that hot new Archos tablet we mentioned a little while back? Five inch touchscreen? Runs Android? Right. Well it’s not just PR shots and specs now; it’s been handled by just about everyone on the internet, and the consensus is: solid, but maybe wait for the first update, which will add full HTML browsing by default and perhaps Flash support. At any rate, the pricing is confirmed and they’re available now.
Laptop Magazine has a little hands on that shows it being pretty much what you’d expect. The touchscreen, although the lady says it’s very responsive, appears about as laggy as my G1′s. Still, with 60GB of storage and some serious firepower running the thing, it’s still a pretty serious super-PMP.
