I Bought a new Ipad from a friend, its a 16GB iPad With Wi-Fi.
do I need a SIM or some sort of data plan to use it or activate it ?
I plan to use it mostly at home with my Wireless network..

No SIM needed (SIM cards are used for GSM networks such as AT&T). Of course, you will need to be within range of a WiFi hotspot to get internet access on the iPad.

Can you use the Apple Ipad like laptop? Do i really need the one with a lot of memory?

My iPad has replaced my laptop. I use it to browse the Internet, play games, and type essays for school. I would get the 32gb at most. Once you get it you will realize that you will not need the 64gb. It is not just a giant iPod touch, it is way better.
