Nvidia Readies Quad-Core Tegra Chips for Mobile Devices

Nvidia officials say that the first mobile devices using its quad-core Tegra
3 chip should start shipping by the fourth quarter, in time for the
all-important holiday season.
Nvidia
first demonstrated the quad-core
chipcodenamed Kal-El at the Computex show in May. Now the company has
begun shipping the chip and expects the devices to hit the market later this
year.
The
announcement came during a financial update given by Nvidia executives Sept. 6,
during which they touted not only their traditional graphics business, but also
their growing mobile computing technology. For its fiscal year 2013which
begins Jan. 30, 2012Nvidia
expects revenues of $4.7 billion to $5 billion, more than the $4.45 billion
expected by analysts.

Lenovo joins tablet PC stampede

Lenovo has announced its first commercial and consumer tablet PCs for Asean markets.
The first three devices will be launched in Thailand tomorrow, setting the giant Chinese computer maker on a quest for a 10-per-cent share of the global tablet PC market within three years.
The director of Lenovo Asean's relationship segment Ronnie Lee said the first three devices in its tablet family included the ThinkPad Tablet, aimed at commercial and business users, and the sleek and stylish IdeaPad Tablet K1, with different Wi-Fi and 3G versions, designed for the consumer market. They are the company's first mobile Internet devices featuring the Android 3.1 honeycomb platform.

Amazon.com Tablet Could Ship 5 Million Units

Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) could sell anywhere between 3 million and 5 million Google
(NASDAQ:GOOG) Android tablets in the fourth quarter, making it far and away the
most successful slate provider on the open-source platform, according to
Forrester Research.
The e-commerce giant is expected to introduce a tablet based on Google's Android "Honeycomb" operating
system in October. To compete with Apple's iPad, which has sold more than 30
million units to date, Amazon is expected to leverage its expertise in content
distribution.
The company will sell applications from its Android Appstore, movies through Amazon
Instant Video and MP3 downloads supported by the Amazon Cloud Player storage
service for consumption on its media tablet.
