Acer Iconia A501 Tab Available for Pre-Orders
AT&T had earlier announced that the company will introduce the 4G Acer Iconia A501 Tab within the year. This version of the device was similar to the Wi-Fi only version although it had an integrated 4G radio. Following the announcement by Acer of the availability of the tablet within the year, no other information was released by the company as it has yet to enter the market. But Amazon recently posted a pre-order page as it gave indications that the 4G Acer Iconia A501 Tab may soon enter the US market.

Acer Iconia Tab A100 (16GB)
From a purely aesthetic perspective, the Acer Iconia Tab A100 looks a lot like the A500 we reviewed a few months ago. From its sloped edges to the placement of its front camera and SD card implementation, it's clear that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. However, due to the smaller form factor, the A100 has to settle for micro versions of ports instead of the full-size versions included on the A500.On the bottom edge of the tablet sit the bulk of its ports, including a recessed reset button, Micro-HDMI, Micro-USB, a power adapter port, and a port for connecting to a dock accessory. On the opposite edge, from left to right, are the headphone jack, the power button/screen lock, and a microphone pinhole. On the top edge are the volume rockers, lock switch (which keeps the screen from rotating), and a compartment that opens to reveal the microSD card slot. The front left bezel houses the 2-megapixel camera with an iPad-like hardware home button located on the far right side of the bezel. On the back near the top edge sits a 5-megapixel camera with a flash bulb.

I'd say this fits my needs enough for me to give it five stars but the technology isn't up to perfect enough for me to give it a five star recommendation to others. Programs do force close occasionally and some of my apps don't work with Honeycomb. There have been a couple of times I've wished I got the Win 7 version so I could get some of my bookkeeping done on my tablet but over all I'm happy. If you've been around computers for a little while and can remember the blue screen of death days with Win 95 or 98, you'll be familiar with the kind of mild annoyances newer software/hardware combinations bring you. It's kinda like that. If you've got an Android phone you're probably used to it, too...

What would you give up to pack more features into an Android tablet? Would you be willing to sacrifice thinness? Accept a little more weight, or a design that’s not quite as svelte as another tablet?
That’s the ring in which the Acer Iconia Tab A500 has found itself. On the one hand, it’s done much to differentiate itself from other Android Honeycomb tablets, which thus far all have the same internals, by packing on the ports and offering an interesting user interface. But these added features mean tradeoffs. But while the Acer Iconia Tab A500 (henceforth the Iconia Tab) might not be the smallest or lightest Android tablet around, that doesn’t mean it should be overlooked.
